What is the threshold for a family?

The law mandates that the funds thresholds be tied to SMI (additional provision 20 Ley 14/2013) [3], and the percentages themselves are called the UGE certificate and the consulate. For the applicant, this is 200% SMI per month. For the family, the UGE certificate writes as follows: for two people, counting the applicant and the reunited, at least 75% of the SMI and 25% for each next [1][2]The page of the Moscow Consulate for a visa is more precise: at least 75% SMI for the first re-united and at least 25% for each additional family member [5].

We read these words as shares that add to the applicant's threshold: 200 + 75 + 25 = 300%. Another reading would be absurd: a two-person family would have less money than one applicant. There is no explanation of UGE on this phrase, so it is better to keep a reserve.

Who is considered a family member?

The law defines a spouse or person in similar relationships, minor children, adult children who are economically dependent on the holder and have not established their own family, and parents as maintenance (art. 62.4 Ley 14/2013) [3]For all, the general requirements of article 62.3 must be confirmed: if family members apply simultaneously with the main family members, they shall be decided simultaneously [3]Sources do not distinguish between age and degree of relationship in the calculation of the threshold: the child and the spouse are treated in the same way as the "first" and "following" family members.

Whose income is considered, and how is it confirmed?

Confirm the claimant ’s income under the contract on which the application is based: the sheets (nóminas) or the accounts (facturas) for the last three months and the bank ’s certificate in his name for the same period where the payments are marked separately and correspond to the sheets or accounts [1]All bank certificates are issued in the name of the applicant. Whether the spouse will enter the threshold of his own earnings, sources do not say. The consulate in Moscow repeats the same percentages [4][5]I. What if income is not enough to reach the family threshold?

If the payment under the contract is insufficient, UGE allows the difference to be closed by savings or other liquidity: by certificates from the Spanish or foreign bank in the name of the claimant, which cover the outstanding amount for the duration of the authorization [1]As the agency considers the balance of the three-year and one-year visa, the document does not specify: the calculation for your family depends on the composition, payment schedule and the duration of the permit, so it is checked before the application, and the payment is paid for each applicant: DNV dutiesIII. Is the spouse's income counted in the DNV calculation?
The UGE does not say what the source says: UGE asks for income documents in the name of the applicant, and the threshold increases with the number of family members, and whether the individual earnings of the spouse are taken into account, it is better to find out before the lawyer or the Gestor is filed, rather than relying on it in advance. The basis of the application remains the contract of the applicant himself. [1]
Is it a gross or a clean family?
The bank certificate shows the amount received, the amount is less than the amount assessed, so the documents are accompanied by an explanatory letter, where gross and net is added to the same line. The UGE itself advises such a letter when there is inaccurate match. [1]
Are children included in the family income calculation for DNV?
Yes, minor children are considered family members under article 62.4 Ley 14/2013, and the threshold is growing: the first member of the family adds 75% of SMI each 25%. The age and degree of relationship in the calculation are not different: the child and the spouse are counted equally. [1][3]
Can the loss of income be closed with savings?
Yes: the difference between the contract income and the threshold covers savings or other liquidity on bank statements in the claimant ’s name for the duration of the permit, but the UGE responses state that funds should be derived from labour income and how these two phrases are combined does not explain the agency.
