Workers' residence in Spain: residence permit for hire, cuenta propia and EU blue card
We're going to work legally in Spain: hire a Spanish employer (cuenta ajena), a business (cuenta propia) or a highly qualified professional, check the requirements, prepare the package and accompany the application, and the rules are given under Real Decreto 1155/2024 and Ley 14/2013.

Who's right and who's not.
The working residence is tied to a particular job or project, first you're determined, then you're collected.
It fits.
- There's a job offer from the Spanish employer: the way to hire, cuenta ajena.
- There is a project or professional activity with licences and investments: cuenta propia
- You are a specialist with higher education or proven experience, and the company is willing to sign a contract with a salary above the threshold: a blue EU map or a national option for highly qualified persons.
- You want to stay in Spain after studying or change status, already here: the order is given by articles 190 and 191 of Reglamento.
Not appropriate.

- You live on savings and don't plan to work: it's fine. A residence permit without work
- You have no employer or project: work permit is issued for specific activities
- You want to start working before you get permission: you can't do that.

Three-track requirements
The employment and self-employment of individuals is regulated by the Reglamento (Real Decreto 1155/2024), and the Blue Card and the National Highly Qualified Card are regulated by Ley 14/2013, articles 71 and 71 bis.

The reduced blue card threshold applies to certain occupations of groups 1 and 2 of the CNO-2011 classification and to those who have received qualifications no more than three years ago. Highly qualified and EU Blue Card in Spain.
Which limits the first authorization
The first permit is issued for a period of employment not exceeding one year and is linked to the region and profession. The first permit is valid for a year and is linked to the region and the field. Hire, cuenta ajena

Highly qualified and blue card

Typical Errors
- The contract is not tied to the authorization. The date of commencement of work must be subject to the entry into force of the authorization. Employment contract in Spain: what to look at.

- The blue card threshold is considered by the old number. He's changing, and he needs a degree homologation for regulated professions.
