Official sources for residence permits in Spain: where to check the rules

The main source is the consolidated text in BOE: it shows the current wording of the law with the dates of change, and the practicalities and requirements for documents are specified on the pages of the Ministry of Inclusion, UGE, Police and Consulate of your country.

Where do we check the relevant residence permit rules first?

In BOE, on the page of the consolidated text of the required act. For general treatment, this is Real Decreto 1155/2024, for DNV and other Ley 14/2013 permits. The consolidated version lists the date of the last revision, while the Selecciónr redación block allows the previous version to be opened. The consolidated text is referenced; the legal force is the official publications of the changes, but it is sufficient to check the page daily.

How can you read the version of the law and not miss the changes?

See three things: the date of the last revision, the list of amending acts and the court decisions, an example: the consolidated regulation 1155/2024 for arraigo added a condition in article 126: the applicant must not be the holder of a residence permit. [1][2]. Article 197.2 on mandatory electronic communication with the Office for certain procedures is invalidated by the Supreme Court’s decision of 8 July 2026 published in the BOE; the decision of 29 July 2026 reiterated this reservation [1][3][16]The regulator is entitled to re-invent this duty if it is applied to certain categories of procedures. How do you check the rules before you file them, step by step?

  1. Please indicate the Spanish procedure and the article number of the regulations or law on which you rely.
  2. Open the consolidated text in BOE and write down the date of the last revision of this article.
  3. Find hoja informativa on the Ministry of Inclusion page and the criteria for the Dirección General de Gestción Migratoria on your subject [5][6][4].
  4. Open the consulate page in the area you're serving for the DNV from Spain. [12][8].
  5. Write down the date of verification next to each digit and repeat the check before delivery: the dates, duties and forms may change.
  6. If sources are not consistent, be law-oriented and discuss the discrepancy with a lawyer or a gestator.

What is it not worth trusting without verification?

The blogs of law firms and agencies, forums, social media and neuronets are contradictory in numbers, and there are sometimes no links to the source. Our articles help to point to and refer to sources but do not replace the test at the date of submission and do not serve as a legal opinion.
