Residence permit for Russians in Spain in 2026: what grounds work

The Russian residence permit for Russians in 2026 is issued on the same grounds as for other third-country citizens: remote work (DNV), no lucrativa, employment, business, study and family, the separate regime for Russian citizens in Reglamento and Ley 14/2013, and the basis for your income, employment and family composition.

Short
  • The grounds are general: DNV (Ley 14/2013), no lucrativa, employment, self-employment, study, family reunification, separate regime for Russian citizens in Reglamento and Ley 14/2013 [1][2].
  • For DNV, the claimant ’s income must be at least 2,849 a month (34,188 a year before taxes) and relations with a foreign company or customers must last at least three months. [2][3].
  • No. lucrativa and self-employment only begin through the consulate of the place of residence, employment begins with the employer ’s application for an employer ’s job in the extra-tjería, and DNV can also be applied from Spain when the employer is legally present [1][2].
  • Russians apply for national visas at their place of residence: in Moscow, by letter, in the north-west of Russia in St. Petersburg. [3][4][8].
  • Arraigo and "to enter and stay" do not work as a relocation plan: arraigo requires two years of stay in Spain, article Ley 14/2013 on investors (Golden Visa) has been missing since 3 April 2025. [1][2].

Russian residence in Spain in 2026: what grounds exist

Rules for Russian citizens are set out in the general rules: Real Decreto 1155/2024 (Reglamento) and Ley 14/2013 for telework, highly qualified professionals, entrepreneurs and intra-corporate transfers [1][2]Different grounds differ in terms, place of supply and whether or not to work.

DNV for Russians: Conditions and features

The law calls remote work for a company outside Spain, the employee works only for such a company, and the self-employed may have a Spanish client until the percentage does not exceed 20% of the total professional activity [2]- It takes a diploma or three years of experience, a relationship with the employer not shorter than three months and a company's real activities for at least a year. [2]III. Income and family income: DNV income in 2026.

Of the Russians' specialities, the consulate in Moscow calls such points [3]:

  • A copy of the internal passport with pages on registration and marital status (for the over 14 years);
  • A certificate of independency from Russia with the Hague Apostille, translation into Spanish of all foreign documents;
  • A passport issued not more than 10 years ago, valid for at least one year;
  • The recommendation is to issue the NIE in advance.

On social insurance for hired UGE explains two ways: to register a foreign company in Spanish Seguridad Social as a non-resident without representation, or to transfer a right under an international agreement if an agreement exists and the authorities issue the required document. [5]. In the 2017 INSS collection, there is a convention between Spain and Russia of April 11, 1994 [6]. We have not found whether the Russian body issues a document on the applicable legislation for teleworkers and whether the UGE accepts it: the consulate in Moscow directly states that only some countries issue such a certificate. [3]I need to check it before the pitch.

No. lucrativa, work and study: how are they different from DNV

No. lucrativa is suitable for those who live on passive income or savings and who do not work in Spain. Reglamento requires a budget of 400 per cent of IPREM per month for the applicant and 100 per cent of IPREM for each member of the family for the duration of the permit, as well as medical insurance. [1]First authorization is granted for a year, two years ’ extension, and when extended, the actual residence in Spain must be confirmed for more than 183 days in the calendar year. [1]I'll give you more details: No lucrativa in Spain.

If you already live on no lucrativa and work remotely, UGE writes that for DNV, such seniority is not counted: no lucrativa does not qualify to work [5].

Employment starts with the employer: he applies to the job place of work, the decision is made within three months, silence means no action. [1]First authorization is limited to one region and profession and is valid for no more than a year [1]The role of the employer is addressed in the article on the work contractSelf-employment is through consulate, first authorization for a year, with regional and sector restrictions [1]For study, the law requires that a study visa be applied at least two months before the beginning of the class unless there are valid reasons for doing so. [1].

What doesn't work like a move plan

  • Arraigo. The law expects that a person has been in Spain for at least two years continuously and has not been authorized to stay or reside since 16 April 2026. [1][7]The one-time arraigo extordinario for those who were in Spain before 1 January 2026 could be served until 30 June 2026, the window closed [1]Types: arraigo in Spain.
  • Golden Visa. Articles 63 to 67 of the Ley 14/2013 on investors since 3 April 2025 in the consolidated text are referred to as "sin contenido" [2].
  • Tourism visa as "first" Only for DNV: the Schengen visa does not per se provide residence. Schengen for Russians and residence permit.

Where a Russian is to file a paperwork

The visa is filed with the consulate, where your place of residence is located. In Moscow, the national visa is granted by the Genkosuls, on record, which is requested by letter to cog.moscu.citas@maec.es in at least four days, the records are not issued to agencies. [4]People in the north-west of Russia need Genkosulsk in St. Petersburg [8]Detailed: Spanish consulates and filing of documents.

The Schengen visas are taken by the BLS Centre. The decision of the European Commission of 6 November 2025 limits multiple visas for Russians residing in Russia: there is a general rule that a single visa remains. [9].

How to Choose a Basis: Questions to Yourself

  1. You work remotely for a company outside Spain for at least three months, and the income is standing at the threshold? [2].
  2. No job in Spain, and there's a means to calculate article 62? [1].
  3. Is there a proposal from an employer who's willing to apply? [1].
  4. You need a study visa in Spain? [1].
  5. Do you or a family member have a connection with a Spanish citizen or a resident? [1].

If several options are appropriate, the comparison gives the table in the article no lucrativa or Digital NomadWhich basis will fit you, depends on the documents, and we don't decide on the reschedule.

Typical Russian errors in base selection

  • They take the basis from the stories of acquaintances rather than from their own document: DNV requires three months of relationship with the employer and income at the threshold, no lucrativa prohibits work, and separate regime for Russians does not know the law [1][2].
  • Not at home: District rule enshrined in article 26 of the Reglamento [1].
  • Bring a certificate of incriminatingness without apostille and translation into Spanish [3].
  • They think that a copy of the internal passport is not needed: the Moscow Consulate calls it among the compulsory Russian documents. [3].
  • Count on the recording through the agency: the consulate writes that records are not issued to intermediaries [4].
  • Taxes and fees are paid: consular fees are paid in local currency when served [3]The fee for the permit is separately published by the authorities.
  • Postponing social insurance, although for DNV hired company without registration in Spanish Seguridad Social or international agreement document, the package is incomplete [5].

Frequent issues

Could Russians be granted a residence in Spain in 2026?
Yes, on general grounds: DNV, no lucrativa, employment, self-employment, study and family, separate regime for Russian citizens in Reglamento 1155/2024 and Ley 14/2013, we have not found, so your employment, income and documents are determined. Which basis is appropriate for you, depending on the specific documents, and this should be checked for consultation. [1][2]
What is the most simple basis for a Russian working remotely?
If you work for a company outside Spain for at least three months and your income is at least below the threshold, you can see DNV. It's hard to say in advance that it's easier than the others: UGE checks the company's income, insurance, social security and documents, and everything depends on the package and how the company and banks confirm the data. The conditions are described in detail in the DNV article. [2][3]
Do Russians need to apply for a residence permit in Moscow?
National visas are issued by place of residence: in Moscow, by letter, in the north-west of Russia in St. Petersburg, and for DNV, the law also allows for the application to UGE from Spain, with a legal stay. No. lucrativa and independent activity are started through consulate, employment on the application of the employer to the extranjería. [1][2][4][8]
Could you come on a Schengen visa and issue a residence in Spain?
For DNV, this is permissible if the conditions of stay in Spain are legal and fulfilled: the law does not specify the type of entry; no lucrativa, employment and self-employment require a national visa at the consulate; Schengen does not give the visa itself and a new visa will be required once a visa has been issued after departure. [1][2][9]
Do you need an apostille for a certificate of indecent conviction?
The consulate in Moscow writes that the certificates of independency issued in Russia, Belarus, Armenia and Uzbekistan should have the apostille of the Hague Convention and all documents in foreign languages translated into Spanish. This is on the DNV list; check the list for other grounds on the consulate page for your reasons before submitting it. [3]
Does the arraigo work to move out of Russia?
Arraigo is intended for those who have been in Spain for at least two years and have not yet been authorized to stay or reside since 16 April 2026, and is not suitable for the relocation plan. [1][7]
