How many DNV visas are in effect?
Up to one year, and if the period of service is shorter, the same amount as the period of service (art. 74 quater, para. [1]General rule for a residence visa under article 75: one year or equal to a permit if shorter and such a visa can be granted in Spain without TIE [1]. The visa gives the right to live and work remotely for the duration of validity (Article 74 quater, paragraph 2). [1].

How many DNV permits are in force and can you get less than three years?
Authorization is granted for up to three years, unless less is requested (art. 74 quinquies, para. 2). [1]The consulate in Moscow describes this as: permits are issued for three years at a time and visas are issued for no more than one year. [4].
The Migration Authority (Dirección General de Gestción Migratoria) explained in the 2/2025 criterion that there is no minimum duration for Ley 14/2013 permits. For teletrabajadores, the time limit is defined "at the requested time, not more than three years" and shorter than 90 days are allowed. [2]So you can ask for permission for the duration of the employment relationship, not for three years by default, which is the most advantageous period, depending on the employer's contract and your plans for life in Spain.
What do two routes look like in time?
- Through the consulate: visa up to one year, then application to UGE in the last 60 days of the visa, permit up to three years, then extension for two years [1].
- From Spain: A permit of up to three years ’ duration, with legal stay, then a two-year extension. [1].

How much longer is the DNV extended?
Extensions shall be granted for a period of two years if the conditions of authorization are maintained (arts. 74 quinquies, para. 3, and 76, para. 3) [1]The application is submitted electronically. The Director General de Migracions may request reports to verify that the conditions remain. [1].
The application for extension shall extend the current authorization until the decision is reached, the same applies if the application is filed within ninety days of the end of the period, but the fine case may be opened (sancionador procedure) [1]The amount of the extension fee is given in the Tasa table on code 038 on the agency page, check it before payment; details in the article DNV duties.
Do you need a TIE map and what's permanent residence?
If the permit is issued for more than six months, the TIE card must be requested (art. 76, para. 2). [1]I. No TIE visa [1].
The preamble to the Ley 28/2022, added by DNV, states that permanent residence is possible in five years [5]. Articles 74 bis-74 quinquies don't mention this, and we haven't checked the terms of transition to permanent residence. This should not be considered an automatic right: everything depends on your case, check with your lawyer.
