Estancia and residencia in Spanish law differ in status: study attendance is not equal to residence permit. What happens after study depends on the basis chosen: see also the following: After studying in SpainIII. Status itself: Training estancia in Spain.
The visa application already includes a permit application: the consulate requests the permission decision from the aceina de extranjería and then issues the visa [1][2]No visa permit is required separately.
What kind of study is suitable for a student visa?
Not all studies qualify for a student visa, but the rules name five types, and the other things depend on the type: where to serve, whether to work, whether to take a family.
