The planned preinscripción at Barcelona schools takes place in the spring; the next campaign (2027-2028) is published by Consorci d'Educación and Department d'Educación, check them in the year of submission. To guide: last cycle (2026-2027), applications for infantil and primària were made from 4 to 18 March 2026, at ESO from 6 to 18 March, documents were submitted until 19 March, matriícula from 22 to 30 June [1]I. Consorci per a la Normalitzación Lingüística (CPNL) runs Catalan courses. According to the price table for 2026-2027 levels Ilial (A1, 45 hours) and Básic (A2, 120 hours) free, Elemental (B1, 120 hours) is 68, Intermedia (B2), 141, with 50 per cent and 70 per cent discounts. [1]So, only A1 and A2 are free and B1 is free.

How do you get a kid to go to school in Barcelona if the school year is already started?
Through the online application of the Department d'Educación "Admiscio a un centre education fora del procés de preinscripción", for children who have not studied in Catalonia or moved to another municipality and in Barcelona to another district, to be given priority in up to four schools, to be accompanied by a birth certificate or a Libro de família and a child's passport, assisted by Consorci d'Educación de Barcelona on record.
Do you need a certificate about the school to extend the residence permit?
In order to extend no lucrativa and reunite, the regulations require that children be enrolled in school (arts. 64.2 (d) and 71.3.d RD 1155/2024); if no lucrativa does not have this confirmed by the documents, the Officiala de Extranjería gives a month to be checked, otherwise the permit will not be extended (art. 64.4). For other reasons, the conditions are set out in the regulations.
Do you have to teach Catalan for a residence permit?
There is no language permit examination. The knowledge of Catalan or Spanish is taken into account by the Informe d'integracio, which Generalitat issues at arraigo social and socioformativo and at extension if a condition is not met: sufficient level A2 or course of 90 hours; citizenship requires the DELE A2 and CCSE examinations for Spanish; Catalan A1 and A2 courses are free of charge in the CPNL.
What if the child was born in Barcelona with a residence permit?
After registration of birth at Registre Civil, the parent personally applies to the Officiala de Extranjeria for the child ’s permission under article 159 of RD 1155/2024 within six months of birth. The permit is issued for five years without a visa; the decision within a month means silence. Then the child is submitted to TIE within a month. Any application for a child is an excuse to check the documents with the lawyer.
Do you need a degree in homologism to work in Spain?
For regulated occupations only: doctors, nurses, architects, engineers, teachers and others on the RD 889/2022 list (lawmakers and procuradores do not belong to it). For other professions and for students, the request is made for deslaración de equivalencia. Both procedures are submitted electronically through the Ministry of Science, with a tax of the Tasa 107 (16.6.50); the time limit of the decision is six months, the application can be considered rejected when silence is not applied.
